Novi Marof (13,900 inhabitants in 1993) was granted the Town status in 1997.

The symbols of Novi Marof are prescribed by Decision Odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Grada Novog Marofa, adopted on 30 March 1998 by the Town Assembly and published in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Varaždinske županije, No. 5.
Decision Odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Grada Novi Marofa, adopted by the Town Assembly on 22 December 1999 by the Town Assembly and published on 11 February 2000 in Službeni vjesnik Varaždinske županije, No. 1, invalidates the previous Decision.
Unlike the 2001 and 2006 Town Statutes, the current Statutes Statut Grada Novi Marofa, adopted on 14 July 2009 by the Town Assembly and published on 16 July 2009 in Službeni vjesnik Varaždinske županije, No. 23, now include the description of the symbols.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.

Novi Marof changed its flag for some reason. I can confirm that two different flags were hoisted on the town hall of Novi Marof as I photographed them, one in April 2001 and the new one in April 2003.
The old flag was white with the coat of arms; the town name road signs including the coat of arms were also changed from white to yellow in the same time. The flag hoisted in 2001 was not "whitewashed" by the weather conditions, since the coat of arms was in well-preserved colours.
The 1998 Decision invalidates previous Decisions of the former Municipality of Novi Marof, published in Službeni vjesnik Varaždinske županije No. 10 (1994), No. 5 (1995) and No. 9 (1995), which might have been prescribing a white flag, but this is only my speculation so far.
